Pendants
Small flat and forged forms on hand-made bails, each supplied on a sterling chain.
Pendants are where I try surfaces out. A disc is a small enough piece of metal that I can take it right through a finish and see how it behaves without committing three days to the answer. Several of the surfaces I now use on larger work started on a 25 mm disc.
Every bail is made and soldered rather than bought in. It is a small thing and almost nobody notices, but a bought bail sits differently and it is the part that gives a hand-made pendant away.
Disc Pendant, 22 mm
A 22 mm disc cut from 1.5 mm sheet, domed very slightly so it sits away from the skin, and planished across the face. The first thing I sold and still the one I make most of.
Disc Pendant, 30 mm
The larger disc, finished satin so it reads as a plain shape rather than a bright one. Big enough to hang properly and heavy enough to stay put when you move.
Leaf Pendant
Cut, filed to shape and then dapped so it curves along its length, with a shallow line worked down the centre. Light, and it moves as you do rather than hanging flat.
Bar Pendant, 34 mm
A straight bar with rounded ends, polished to a mirror on all four faces. Small and flat enough that the mirror survives, which it does not on anything larger.
Drop Pendant, Forged
Forged from 5 mm round rod so it spreads wide and thin at the bottom and stays round at the top. The whole shape comes from the hammer rather than from cutting, so no two are the same width.
Oxidised Disc
A 24 mm disc taken to a deep grey-black patina and then rubbed back on the high points so the texture reads through. The patina is a surface, not a coating, and it will wear. I re-darken these free of charge for as long as I am at the bench.
Britannia Disc, 26 mm
The same disc in the softer, whiter alloy. Set it next to the sterling one and the colour difference is obvious. On its own, it just looks like very good silver.
Double Drop
Two forged drops of different lengths on one bail, so they knock together very quietly when you move. That was an accident the first time and I kept it.
Weights are for the pendant alone. Every pendant is supplied on a 450 mm sterling curb chain, included in the price. A 500 mm chain is the same money if you prefer it longer.
