Terms
How ordering, paying, waiting and returning actually work here. Written to be read rather than to be survived.
Who you are dealing with
Argetam is a sole trader silversmithing workshop based in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. All correspondence goes to hello@argetam.com. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
Prices
Prices are in pounds sterling and include UK delivery. They are held for sixty days from the date of a written quote. Listed prices on the collections can change when the metal price moves significantly, but a price quoted to you in writing does not change afterwards.
Weights on the listings are actual weighed values for the piece photographed. Because the work is made by hand, another piece of the same pattern may differ by a gram or so. Where a difference in weight would change the price materially, I will tell you before I make it.
Ordering and payment
Stock pieces are paid for in full before dispatch. Made to order pieces are paid in full before dispatch. Commissions take a deposit of one third once the drawing and the price are agreed, with the balance due before dispatch.
Payment is by UK bank transfer. I do not take card payments. Nothing is made and nothing is sent until cleared funds are in the account.
Lead times
Every lead time given is an honest estimate based on the work in front of it, not a guarantee. If a piece is going to be late I will tell you as soon as I know rather than on the day it was due.
Where a piece is for a specific date, that date must be agreed in writing before the deposit. I build a buffer into any dated commission and I stop taking December work at the end of September.
Hallmarking
Pieces above the legal weight threshold are sent for independent hallmarking, which adds about ten days and is outside my control. Hallmarking is a legal requirement, not an optional extra, and I will not dispatch an unmarked piece that requires a mark. What the marks mean is set out in what a hallmark tells you.
Delivery
UK delivery is tracked, insured and included. Overseas delivery is tracked, insured and charged at cost. The full value is declared on the customs paperwork, because understating it voids the insurance. Any import duty, tax or handling fee at your end is your responsibility.
Risk passes to you when the parcel is delivered to the address you gave. If a parcel arrives damaged, photograph it before opening it fully and tell me within three days so the insurance claim holds.
Cancellation and returns
Stock pieces can be returned within fourteen days of delivery for a full refund, unworn and in their original packaging, under the Consumer Contracts Regulations. Return postage is yours unless the piece was faulty or wrongly described. Refunds are made within three working days of the piece arriving back.
Made to order and commissioned pieces are made to your specification and are outside those cancellation rights. A commission deposit is refunded in full if you cancel before I begin cutting metal. Once work has started the deposit is not refundable, because the metal and the hours have already been spent.
None of this affects your legal rights where a piece is faulty, not as described, or not fit for purpose.
Faults and putting things right
If something is wrong with the making, tell me and I will repair it, remake it or refund it, and I will pay the postage both ways. A visible solder seam under close light is not a fault, for the reasons in why solder shows, but a seam you can feel or see across a room is.
Ordinary wear is not a fault. Silver scratches, and a mirror finish scratches fastest, which is stated plainly on every mirror-finished listing and explained in choosing a finish. Refinishing wear on a piece I made is free for as long as I am at the bench: you pay the postage to me and I pay for the return. Resizing a ring I made is free within the first year and £45 to £75 after that, because it adds or removes metal. The same policy is set out on the restoration page.
Restoration work
Restoration is quoted from photographs and confirmed once I have the piece in hand. If the piece turns out to need more work than the photographs showed, I stop and re-quote rather than continuing and invoicing you for the difference.
Old and previously repaired silver carries risk that cannot be seen from outside, including hidden cracks, earlier soft solder repairs, and metal that has been overheated in the past. I will point out what I can see and warn you where I think there is risk, and work proceeds at your decision. Pieces are insured while they are with me. Details of what can and cannot be saved are on the restoration page.
Intellectual property
Designs, drawings, photographs and text on this site are mine. A commissioned design is made for you and I will not repeat it for someone else, but the underlying techniques and general forms remain part of my ordinary work.
Liability
My liability for any piece is limited to the price you paid for it, plus postage. Nothing here limits liability for death, personal injury or fraud, because it cannot.
Complaints
Write to hello@argetam.com. I answer complaints personally and quickly, because there is nobody else to pass them to.
